Head of New Business (Maternity cover)

This is a 12-month fixed term contract that will have a pivotal role in driving new business leads and growth of the agency. Reporting into the Board this individual will line manage a Marketing & New Business Coordinator but will also have responsibility of leading on projects and working across the agency.

Role responsibilities:

  • Build, own and deliver a robust pipeline and prospecting strategy for MSL
  • Responsible for building and raising our profile internally and externally
  • Promote MSL’s offer across Publicis Groupe to maximise client migration and client introduction opportunities
  • Focused on building close relationships and trust with key stakeholders at sister agencies
  • Managing relationships with MSL global new business and leadership community
  • Partnering with MSL’s CEO and Strategic Development Director to develop a robust, financially sound, strategic vision for MSL’s New Business offer to deliver against financial targets
  • Working with MSL’s Managing Directors to drive annual business development plans and activity
  • Agree a budget, process and schedule that is relevant for the new business activities to ensure a realistic ROI
  • Ownership of MSL’s pitch process (including credentials, completion of RFIs, RFPs, quality of pitch presentations) to ensure pitch process and reporting are managed to the highest standard
  • Work closely with the Strategic Development Director, MDs and Directors to lead and convert new business opportunities
  • Help to lead and deliver thought leadership-based marketing initiatives such as breakfast roundtables, research pieces, supplements, seminars
  • Make the outputs focused and achievable in order to gain positive new business opportunities
  • Overall responsibility for the health and maintenance of the new business pipeline
  • Drive accountability and awareness of new business through weekly and monthly reporting cycles
  • Lead new business brainstorms and new business pitches, as well as educating and inspiring account team members to seek out opportunities for new business
  • Take opportunities to cross-sell services to gain a further foothold in client businesses where relevant

Candidate profile:

  • The ideal candidate is likely to be in a senior business development role in either a leading agency or consultancy
  • In-depth sector and industry knowledge, well networked with strong client and press contacts
  • Seeking to specialise more specifically in PR and communications and the exciting areas that relate to helping clients speak to a diverse range of audiences
  • Excellent presenter, with a proven track record of pitching and winning new business
  • Experience in developing, motivating and leading teams and achieving results through others
  • Able to work to clear commercial targets and motivated by the client conversion process
  • Can embrace a non-corporate, integrated agency environment
  • Experience of working alongside and needing to drive other senior people (e.g. Directors who are often very busy people with less of a sales focus)
  • Strong sales and facilitation skills
  • Flexibility for frequent travel
